WHO GOES TO THERAPY....AND WHY?

People from all walks of life have different motivations for finding a therapist. Some may be going through a major life transition such as unemployment, porce, new job, loss of a loved one, etc. Others may not be handling stressful circumstances too well. Some people need assistance resolving critical issues such as emotional and physical abuse, childhood trauma, low self-esteem or the absence of a strong support system. Others look to enhance spiritual connections or eliminate creative blocks. Some are ready to learn more about themselves or want a more productive life. Therapists can provide support, education, problem-solving skills, insight and improved coping strategies regarding issues of importance to you. Keep in mind the benefits you gain depend on how well you value the therapeutic process and put into practice tools and insights learned.

A full session lasts 60 minutes and typically occurs weekly to biweekly for the first two to three months. The first several weeks of the therapeutic process are the most critical, as we get to know each other and build a mutually trusting relationship. These early sessions help me to more quickly learn your personal history, which allows me to better address your challenges. Ideally, sessions end once we agree that goals have been met, problem symptoms are effectively managed, and concerns are resolve

WILL I NEED MEDICATION?

It is well known that long term solutions to the pain of mental and emotional problems cannot be solved by medication alone. Instead of just treating symptoms, therapy addresses the causes of our distress and unhealthy behavior patterns that slow growth and development.

Sometimes a combination of medication and therapy may be the right course of action, depending on severity of symptoms. I support an integrative approach to wellness and so, if needed, we'll discuss whether consultation with a physician is in your best interest.
